Throughout this course, I was required to generate a variety of different technical documents as a part of the course goals. One of my better written assignments was the technical description. A technical description is a detailed explanation of an object, process, or place. This assignment is a perfect example of one of our course goals. I was required to create a document that would help me to understand, critique, and adapt to effective strategies in communication. I was able to learn from this goal by effectively adapting my writing style to that of this assignment and to my audience to create a document that fulfilled the purpose. I was able to write this technical description on any topic of my choosing. I chose to write my technical description on opioid abuse. Currently, I work in a pharmacy and see that this is a daily problem for patients who come in to fill their prescriptions. Therefore, I was interested in learning more about the issues with this problem. My technical description is attached at the bottom of the page. This class taught me a variety of different types of writing, not only technically, but for real life situations. I learned how to redesign poorly designed documents, create a resume with a cover letter, a technical description, a technical document, and a proposal. One of the course goals required for this class involved critical reading and thinking through the study of technical writing. Through our textbook and our class lectures, I was able to gain an understanding on how to correctly synthesize other peoples writing. Another course goal included improving my writing by incorporating collaboration, research, planning, editing, and revising. This was my favorite part about working in this class. I was able to work in groups with my peers to create the different assignments. I feel that I was able to grow tremendously by receiving feedback from my peers about my writing and ideas. While receiving feedback from my group, we also received feedback from other groups about our writing as a whole. This allowed for not only me, but also my group to develop our writing individually. This class helped me to work towards bettering my technical writing skills. I had never learned how to create a proper resume and cover letter until I took this class. Thankfully, since I am getting to the point in my life where I will be needing to use both a resume and cover letter, I will have developed a well written resume to turn in for job interviews. I will hopefully stand out as well, considering that my resume will be more professional compared to most. I would say the easiest or I guess my favorite part about this class was creating my technical documentation. I worked well with the peers in my group and we all did a fair share of the work. Since my teacher allowed my group to pick a topic on our own, my group fortunately chose something I am passionate about. The hardest project I had to do during this course was getting up in front of the class to present my proposal. I am not good at talking in front of people and it was a little out of my comfort zone. I practiced at home before I had to present, which made it a lot easier when I had to do my part of the presentation. Overall, I feel that I learned a lot from this class.
